One of my favorite things throughout October is reading Halloween Books to the kids before bed each night. We love to read together and Halloween stories are the absolute best! They are so cute and they have the best illustrations. We have bookshelves in our playroom that we use to display our favorites. This makes it easy for the kids to pick out the story they want to read. It also serves as cute decor for our playroom. Over the years we have built up our collection and below you’ll find a list of our top 10 favorite Halloween books for kids.

Our Top 10 Favorite Halloween Books for Kids

  1. Gustavo the Shy Ghost – Such a cute story with really fun illustrations throughout the whole book.
  2. Bonaparte Falls Apart – This one is new for us this year. My son loves it and the illustrations are adorable.
  3. Vampirina Ballerina – One of my daughter’s all-time favorites. If you have a girl who loves ballet she will love this one.
  4. Sir Simon: Super Scarer – Hands down our number one favorite Halloween book. It’s such a cute story for all ages. My daughter who is 8 still loves to read this one. There is a dialogue between 2 characters (Simon & Chester). She loves taking turns reading the parts of each character. My son who is 6 chooses this one just about every night.
  5. B is for Boo – This is a great book for kids who are learning the alphabet.
  6. The Bad Seed Presents: The Good, the Bad, and the Spooky – If you are a fan of The Bad Seed book series you will not be disappointed with this one.
  7. A Super Scary Narwhalloween – This was another new book for us this year. Since my daughter is getting older (she’s currently 8) I thought she would like something geared more to her age group. She is a huge fan of the Narwhal and Jelly Book series and she really enjoyed this one.
  8. Room on the Broom – I highly recommend this book if it’s not already part of your collection.
  9. Five Black Cats – This was our favorite story to read when both kids were toddlers. My daughter loved it so much that we used to read it all year long. I’m pretty sure I still have the whole book memorized.
  10. One, Two…Boo! – Adorable little board book that is perfect for toddlers. Your kids will love opening the flaps as you read.

Books Make a Great Gift

Every year, my kids receive a new book and Halloween-themed pajamas to get excited for the upcoming Halloween season. This tradition has helped us build our collection of Halloween books over the years. Additionally, since kids grow so quickly, they always need new pajamas.
If you found this post on favorite Halloween books for kids useful, please let me know. I would love to hear if your family has a favorite book that I did not mention. I am constantly searching for new recommendations to add to our collection for next year.
